Erasmus Mundus Consortium in Systems Biology (euSYSBIO): Master Scholarships for non-Eu Students 2011-2012
The Erasmus Mundus master's programme in Systems Biology (euSYSBIO) is a cooperation between KTH Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden (KTH), Instituto Superior Tecnologico in Portugal (IST) and Helsinki University of Technology in Finland (TKK). It is a two-year Master's programme including compulsory mobilty for the students. Systems biology is defined as the study of the interactions between the components of a biological system, and how these interactions give rise to the function and behaviour of that system. The origins of systems biology are investigations of the concerted responses of single cells to drugs and other environmental stresses.
The aim of euSYSBIO programme is to train professionals who can cope with the expected future demands of a systems biology specialist. The euSYSBIO programme gives the students a solid back-ground in methodological sciences and hands-on experience in measurement modern measurement technologies, thus providing the students the means for handling large quantities of data and using the information to make valid biological hypotheses, and then to test them.

Individual PhD Sandwich Scholarship Programme ITM-DGDC - Call 2010
The Institute of Tropical Medicine (ITM) offers doctoral programs in fields ranging from molecular biology to health systems research, in collaboration with Belgian and foreign universities. The actual doctoral degree is awarded by the university, following public defence of the thesis. Each PhD student is jointly supervised by an ITM supervisor and a university supervisor or a supervisor from the student’s home institution, in case of a sandwich PhD. The research work takes place at the ITM and/or in the field. The doctoral research and course work will typically take four years. The program curriculum consists mainly of a comprehensive original research project, resulting in a thesis based on one’s own publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Depending on the university, course work is optional and tailored towards the individual needs of the candidates.
