Dear Friends and Colleagues,
On behalf of the Brazilian
Society for Immunology (SBI) we are pleased and honored to invite you to
our XXXIX Annual Congress during
October 18 to 22 of 2014. We are delighted to have among us several worldwide
leaders in Immunology and related areas, who were kind enough to spare some of
their time to present us their most recent data and personal views.
The
scientific program will follow excellences of topics and guest speakers, which
is already a tradition in SBI meetings, valuing expertise as well as offering
opportunities to young scientists. The format of the meeting
includes six Keynote Conferences, twelve Main Conferences, nine Symposiums,
eight Express Presentation Sessions with a total of 40 oral communications by
students, post-docs and young investigators selected from submitted abstracts,
and three Poster Sessions.
In addition, we will put
together the VII Extra Section of Clinical Immunology (ESCI), with the
goal of assembling a group of specialists from both clinical and basic science
that will discuss different aspects on translational Immunology, including
immunity to infections and host defenses, immunoregulation in experimental and
human disease, vaccines and allergy, among other topics. Further, an introductory
Immunology course just before the SBI meeting will complement the scientific
program.
This year, together with the
already well known awards given by SBI, including the Thereza Kipnis Award, the
BD Bioscience Investigator Award and the prizes for best posters in all
categories, the SBI will introduce a new award SBI Lifetime Achievements in
Immunology. This award will be the highest honor granted by the Brazilian
Society of Immunology, recognizing a deserving SBI member for a career of
scientific achievement in Immunology, commitment to mentoring, and for
contributions to SBI and Brazilian Immunology. This award will be presented
every other year during the general meeting of SBI and the award will be
subject to nomination by an independent committee indicated by the SBI board of
directors.
Finally, the meeting will be
held in Armação dos Búzios, often referred to as just Búzios, a charming and stylish town located in a peninsula at the sea
coast in the Rio de Janeiro State with 8 kilometers in extension featuring 23
beaches. Búzios became a global spotlight after the visit of Brigitte Bardot in
the 1960s, a famous French actress. Althougt Búzios turned one of the most
popular getaway from a worldwide tourist site, the city continues to offers a
calmness, direct contact with nature and breathtaking views.
