Oportunidades de fomento

Exome Sequencing, Genotyping and ArrayCGH: Technologies for Genome Analysis - Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge
This new course provides a comprehensive overview of three cutting edge technologies used for the analysis of structural variation in vertebrate genomes. Participants will gain practical experience of a number of platforms, as well as training in aspects of data analysis such as quality control, data formatting, variation calling and visualisation. Meaningful biological data will be generated first-hand, and a sound theoretical knowledge of all leading technologies will be gained for a broad understanding of the field. The programme is designed for researchers whose aim might be to employ these methods alone or collectively, to gain a multifaceted understanding of genome structure and its influences on function.

From Targets to Novel Drugs Initiative
The Bayer’s mission is to provide new treatment options for diseases with high unmet medical need. Bayer is committed to innovation and to translating ideas from basic research into novel drugs. Bayer is dedicated to fostering collaborations with excellent academic groups and start-ups. In order to further pool expertise and to join forces for mutual benefit, Bayer Schering Pharma AG intends to support collaborative research projects on attractive, novel molecular targets in the fields of Oncology, Cardiology, Gynecology and In Vivo Imaging.

To promote this new approach, Bayer Schering Pharma AG intends to allocate grants for the further development of promising targets. With this initiative, Bayer Schering Pharma aims to encourage research on novel targets in areas of mutual interest. By combining expertise from industry and academia we intend to accelerate the transition from basic research to new promising treatment options.

TDR/WHO Clinical Research & Development Fellowships 2011
The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) invites researchers from Disease Endemic Countries (DEC) to apply for Career Development Fellowship on Clinical Research & Development (Clinical R&D). Successful candidates will be seconded to leading drug development institutions such as pharmaceutical companies and product development partnerships (PDPs) that are also taking part in this fellowship programme. The goal is to develop human resources to promote high quality clinical R&D in DEC. It is expected that qualified professionals will be able to enhance DEC product-development capacity on diagnostics, drugs and vaccines for infectious diseases that disproportionately affect poor and marginalized populations.

The fellowship will train individuals
in situ with relevant partners in order to develop specialized skills not readily taught in academic centres, including inter alia R&D project management, regulatory requirements and good practices. Upon completing their fellowships, the individuals are expected to return to their home institutes and assume a leading role in the global effort on R&D for infectious diseases.

ESCV Travel Grants 2011
The purpose and aims of the European Society for Clinical Virology (ESCV) is together scientists and clinicians to promote Public Health and advance education, particularly medical education, in Clinical and Basic Virology.The next ESCV meeting will be in London. It will run over three days, from mid day on Thursday 13th January until mid day on Saturday 15th 2011. The meeting will have a strong clinical emphasis and the programme will be attractive to virologists, microbiologists, public health physicians and other infection specialists. The ESCV wishes to offer 10 travel grants to young researchers to enable them to attend this meeting.
Data Limite: The application travel grant should be submitted at the time of abstract submission. The deadline for submission of abstracts is midnight on 8 October 2010. Veja aqui

International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology -  Educational Activities
The International Union of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (IUMBM) is devoted to promoting research and education in biochemistry and molecular biology throughout the world and gives particular attention to areas where the subject is still in its early development. The IUBMB is committed to improving education in biochemistry and molecular biology at all levels. The IUBMB Committee on Education provides sponsorship for a range of activities which contribute to this goal.

The Committee has identified the following broad priorities for funding:
1.                Symposia or workshops which bring together expertise from across the international community of biochemistry and molecular biology educators, and which focus on a significant pedagogical issue;
2.                Symposia or workshops that are developed deliberately to facilitate repeat delivery in multiple locations;
3.                Activities which seek to leverage funding from other sources in order to increase their scope and impact (long and short term);
4.                Activities which focus on communities where biochemistry and molecular biology are not yet well developed.
Data Limite: Submission deadline (for funding in 2011): First round: September 30, 2010. Second round: April 1, 2011 Veja aqui

ISID Small Grants Program
The mission of the International Society for Infectious Diseases (ISID) is to enhance research, prevention, and treatment of infectious diseases, particularly in low resource countries.
The Small Grants Program is designed to fund pilot research projects by young investigators in developing countries. The goal is to support and foster the professional development of young individuals in the field of infectious diseases research by helping them to acquire additional skills and data to apply for other grants. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to investigations of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, diagnosis or treatment of infectious diseases, the epidemiology and control of hospital-acquired infections, and modeling of cost effective interventions.

ASM International Professorship Programs for Africa, Asia and Latin America and the Caribbean
The American Society of Microbiology (AMS) International Professorship Program for Latin America and the Caribbean provides funding support to an ASM member who is scientifically recognized in his/her area to teach a hands-on, highly interactive short course on a single topic in the microbiological sciences at a Latin American institution of higher learning. Up to five Teaching Professorships offered per program year.
An online database of ASM members interested in being visiting professors to foreign universities is available. Professors are able to add their information to the database by completing a brief online questionnaire. Host institutions may search this database and contact potential visiting professors based on the professors's profiles. Please refer to the following links for further information:
Volunteer as an ASM member interested in becoming a Visiting Professor. Search the database of Visiting Professors.
Data Limite: Annual deadlines: April 15 and October 15.
