Entrevistas ImunoFoz2011 - Leonardo Riella

SBlogI entrevista:

Dr. Leonardo V. Riella
Harvard Medical School, EUA

SBlogI - What is the theme of your lecture at ImunoFoz 2011?
Riella, L. V. - Novel role of the Notch pathway in graft rejection.

SBlogI - What is the main finding or conclusion that will be emphasized?
Riella, L. V. - Different Notch signals are able to drive complete opposite alloimmune responses in the transplant setting, leading to either rejection or improvement in graft survival.

SBlogI - What is the significance of this finding?
Riella, L. V. - Targeting the Notch pathway has a great promise for immunomodulation of the immune response.

SBlogI - What are the future perspectives in this area?
Riella, L. V. - Improvement of monoclonal antibodies and inhibitory drugs will advance the field in multiple areas, including oncology, transplantation and infectious disease.

SBlogI - What are the challenges in this area? Are there controversies? Opponent hypotheses?
Riella, L. V. - Challenges are related to the broad expression of the Notch pathway in multiple tissues, requiring the development of more selective agents to avoid toxicity.

SBlogI - Any suggestions for background reading?
