Bolsas do Programa Pew para a America Latina

Post de Valéria Borges
O Programa da PEW já foi noticiado no SBlogI (aqui), mas vale a pena relembrar.
We are pleased to announce the call for applications for the 2011 awards of the Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences.  Attached is a flyer about the program and the application process for the next round of awards.  Our website includes detailed information about eligibility criteria, how to apply, and encourages potential candidates who would like assistance identifying possible host labs to contact the program office.  The online application is available now for applicants to use.  A copy of the application guide with detailed instructions is also attached here. The deadline for applications is October 1
Please share this flyer with your institution colleagues, students and any other contacts that may be interested.    As always, the Pew Fellows Program wants to attract the very best candidates from all of Latin America and we very much appreciate your help spreading the word.

The Pew Latin American Fellows Program in the Biomedical Sciences provides support for young scientists from Latin America to receive postdoctoral training in the United States. The program gives these individuals an opportunity to further their scientific knowledge, promotes exchange and collaboration between investigators in the U.S. and Latin America, and advances research in Latin America.
The program provides two-fold support. First, chosen Fellows receive funding support from a grant from Pew through their U.S. host institutions for postdoctoral training in the United States. The host institutions receive $60,000 to support the Fellow's salary over two years for their research and training. To apply, potential candidates need to identify and obtain a commitment from the head of a laboratory in the United States for a postdoctoral position. The program office will provide assistance to prospective candidates to identify investigators with similar research interests who may be interested in hiring postdoctoral fellows. For information, potential applicants may email Anita Pepper, Senior Associate, Pew Biomedical Programs, at apepper@pewtrusts.org.
Applicants to the program are initially reviewed by regional selection committees in Latin America. Final selection is completed by a scientific advisory committee in the United States. Fellows are selected on the basis of their promise as outstanding investigators as well as the scientific merit of their research proposal, their record of training, and the match of their interests with those of their host laboratory in the United States.
Second, following completion of the postdoctoral training, Pew Fellows are encouraged to obtain positions at academic or research institutions in Latin America. Pew Fellows who accept a research position in Latin America within 4 years of the start of their Pew grant will receive an additional grant payment through their sponsoring U.S. Institution to use to purchase supplies and equipment to help them establish their laboratory.
The deadline for applications for the 2011 awards is October 1, 2010
